On Sunday, Environment Minister Chris Bowen said the government had joined the Global Methane Pledge as part of efforts to reduce global methane emissions.
The government has confirmed it will follow up Joe Biden’s global pledge to reduce methane emissions by 30 per cent by 2030, after the Prime Minister warned that climate change is raising the frequency of extreme weather events in Australia.
State investment backing the pledge will be up to A $3 billion ($1.91 billion) from a $15 billion National Reconstruction Fund to support low-carbon technologies and the manufacturing of components and mitigation of atmospheric methane emissions, Bowen said.
Labor has made provision of $3 billion with the Morrison government’s National Reconstruction Fund to help with agricultural methane emissions and other clean technology initiatives.
