List of offshore wind farms in the United States – Block Island Wind Farm.
The Biden administration, moving to boost offshore wind along the U.S. West Coast, said Monday that it is taking steps to approve a giant wind farm off New Jersey that could generate power for more than 10m million homes by 2030.
The efforts would also help reduce 78 million tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions annually, a key step in the country’s struggle to slow global warming.
The anticipated approval of the Atlantic coast projects that constitute the tallying of at least 16 offshore wind projects along the East Coast marks a sharp reversal by the Trump administration, which has prevented onshore and offshore wind from moving.
Ocean Wind, fifteen miles off the coast of southern New Jersey, is forecast to generate about 1.100 megawatts per year, enough to power 500.000 homes.
Vineyard Wind is expected to produce approximately 800 megawatts and South Fork around 132.
Ocean Wind and South Fork are run by Danish firm Orsted.
Donald Trump frequently derided wind power as a expensive, bird-killing method of generating energy, and his administration defied projects such as Vineyard Wind or turned it down.
A small wind farm is located close to Block Island in waters controlled by Rhode Island, and another little wind farm is located off the coast of Virginia.
