Billionaire Bill Gates has admitted that wealthy countries like the USA should eat entirely synthetic beef instead of real beef in tackling climate change.

Gates, whose book titled ‘How to Avoid a Climate Disaster’ is released on Tuesday, also spoke of the difficulty of fighting emissions from livestock farming, saying artificial meat is the way forward – noting the popularity of InStyle Foods and Beyond Meat.

He added that his Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation is seeing African farm animals, which are capable of surviving extreme heat, cross-breeding with the U.S. beef line’s high meat and milk productivity.

The world’s second richest man offered his ideas for reducing greenhouse gases in a just-published interview with MIT Technology Review.

Cows, when they digest grasses, have to produce methane – a greenhouse gas which, according to the Global Carbon Project, stores 28 times more heat than CO2.

“I do think all rich countries should move to 100% synthetic beef,”Bill Gates

“I do think all rich countries should move to 100% synthetic beef,” Gates said in response to questions about how to cut methane emissions.

The billionaire said poor countries including Africa needed to use animal genetics to boost the amount of beef produced each year.
