Global warming is dangerously close to getting out of control, a U.N. climate Council said in a landmark report on Monday, warning the world that more climate shifts will follow decades, if not centuries, away.

Already, greenhouse gas concentrations in the atmosphere are high enough to guarantee a climate change disturbance for decades, if not centuries, the report by scientists at the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.

Fast action to cut greenhouse gas emissions may be limiting some effects, but others are now in tatters.

The deadly heat waves, powerful hurricanes, and other weather extremes currently taking place will only grow worse.

Certain modifications have already been “locked in”
