The Met Office has issued a heatwave warning for the first time to come in as public health concerns over the scorching heat have increased in parts of the country.

The warning is in operation for the south Wales border, the West Midlands, south west England and further east into Hampshire and into the Isle of Wight.

Extreme heat warnings issued by the Met Office last month work very much like existing weather warnings.

Public Health England (PHE) also issued a heat warning advising people not to stay in the sun, drink plenty of fluids and avoid excessive drinking and physical activity during the hottest days.
