Spies are keeping an eye on the world’s leading polluters to make sure they meet green pledges, M16 chief says
The head of the Secret Secret Intelligence Service has revealed that ‘he helps to verify that the advanced countries are playing fair’ on meeting their climate change obligations.
Moore, who is known as C, telling the Times Radio: ‘Where people sign up to commitments on climate change, it is perhaps our job to make sure that actually what they are really doing reflects what they have signed up to.
The agency, famous in the James Bond films, is to keep an eye on whether major developed nations meet their obligations on climate change.
Earlier this week, Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced a “world-leading” target for the UK to cut emissions by 78% by 2035-compared with 1990 levels-on the back of plans to cut pollution by 68% by 2030, the most ambitious of the country’s leading economies.
Britain will host COP26 – an important global climate summit – in Glasgow in November.
