– The Bootleg Fire, the largest fire to have spread across the US state of Oregon, has reached over 300.000 acres (approximately 1.214 square miles) since Monday, and evacuation orders have been strengthened, authorities said.
“The drought conditions across Oregon are really driving the fire potential,”Doug Grafe
‘The drought conditions across Oregon are really driving the fire potential,’ said Doug Grafe, fire safety senior officer with the Oregon Forest Service.
The log fire is burning just a few miles northeast of Bootleg Fire and has expanded over 10.000 acres.
“Crews will continue to work on areas where the fire has slopped or spotted over Forest Roads 28 and 34,” a statement from the fire service read.
The cause of the crash is being investigated, it said.
Crews increased the containment factor to 30%, a jump of 5% on the entire period of Monday.
The Bootleg Fire, which began July 6, is by far the largest of 80 major active wildfires that have burned a combined amount of about 1.2 million acres in 13 states, according to the National Interagency Fire Center.
Still, 67 houses and 117 others were destroyed.
