Great Barrier Reef

Australia will challenge a draft recommendation to classify the Great Barrier Reef as a world heritage area that is “in danger” following a call at the UN for more government action on climate change.

Federal environment minister Sussan Ley is “stunned” by the recommendation, and plans to join State Minister Marise Payne in urging UNESCO Director General Audrey Azoulay to come to her office in Rome for comment.
