Another arctic blast will hit the US this week; snow and ice are forecast across much of the country.
“There could be a small, 3-inch thick snowfall from parts of the Tennessee Valley to the lower Mid-Atlantic coast in the Wednesday night through Thursday time frame.” Accuweather meteorologist Bernie Rayno said Thursday.
The National Weather Service is issuing weather warnings across parts of the country because of the forecast.
Another 1 to 2 inches could accumulate in those areas later on Thursday morning, before the snow recedes by late afternoon.
It comes just days after blizzard Izzy dumped a foot or more of snow in several northern states last weekend following it hit the south-east.
Tens of millions of people were affected by power cuts, and thousands of flights cancelled or delayed.

With 9.3" of snow already having been measured in Nashville this month, this has become the snowiest January since 1985 and the 9th snowiest January overall. The record for January is 18.8" set in 1948. (January, 1985 was also the month we set our all-time record low of -17°.)

Not a big deal tomorrow morning, but could be slick in spots especially away from the coast and south of MA Pike. This falls roughly sunrise to mid-AM. pic.twitter.com/j4IAHNSjjQ

WEDNESDAY AM weather update ⤵️
Warming up into the 40° with gusty winds today … a little light snow ❄️ for the AM commute tomorrow #WCVB pic.twitter.com/e7SYh1wvLN— Cindy Fitzgibbon (@Met_CindyFitz) January 19, 2022
Thursday's snow won't be all that impressive. Dust up/coating north of the Pike. 1-2" (some location may squeeze out 3") for southeastern MA.
Timing is the concern. Early commute and the start of school could be impacted. pic.twitter.com/mX1XOf8ee8

Flakes fall for all of us tomorrow morning but it's more persistent south of Route 2 — where minor accumulations are expected. Not a ton of snow, but ill timed during the morning commute. Plan on a quick scrape of the driveway or brush of the car before you head to work. pic.twitter.com/7bZocNwyP2

Here's my latest thought for tomorrow's snow. Expect some delays in the morning – lunchtime for the minor accumulation. @boston25 #mawx #nhwx pic.twitter.com/1SyRuqnCHo
