Pope Francis praised youth climate activists on Wednesday for struggling against global warming and encouraged them to continue the work “for the good of humanity”
Francis addressed the three-day meeting of youth climate change activists taking part in Milan, Italy with a video message of an appeal from some 400 activists including Greta Thunberg from Sweden and Vanessa Nakate from Uganda.
The Youth4Climate Summit sends suggestions to the United Nations Climate Summit, which starts in Glasgow, Scotland, on October 31.
The pontiff encouraged young activists to stay engaged “for the good of humanity,” adding that her vision “is capable of challenging the adult world.”
Francis has made concern for “our common home” a hallmark of his papacy, dedicating a whole encyclical to the topic in 2015.
The Scottish Episcopal Conference has said that it expects Francis to attend the climate summit in Glasgow despite the Vatican not even confirming that he would attend.
In an interview with activists, Pope Francis told delegates:”It is time to take wise decisions so that we can make use of the many experiences gained in recent years, in order to make possible a culture of care, a culture of responsible sharing,”
“We must find a smooth transition towards a low carbon economy. There is no Planet B.”There is no Planet Blah. Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah,” There’s no planet B. Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blahh, blah, blahh,”she added, in a nod to a speech given by the French president Emmanuel Macron, CNN said.
