Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison said the nation requires an economic plan to succeed in the global struggle against emissions and climate change.

‘This change is happening with or without us,’ Mr Morrison told The Australian Financial Review in an interview released on Saturday night.

Given that some citizens are openly against signing the mid-century “net zero commitment,” and others are still not committed, it is not clear whether Morrison will have the political capital to make the additional move of raising the 2030 target.

Australia is one of the world’s leading exporters of fossil fuels, overcoming the Group of 20 nations for failing to establish a formal target.
