Another atmospheric river worked its way into the Southland on Thursday, which led to the threat of flooding and mudslides in forest blazes.

The expected heavy rains, from Thursday night into early Friday morning, increased the risk of flooding in low lying roads and motorways and of mudslides and falling rocks on forested road.

Drizzle was forecast in Los Angeles on Thursday morning, and a steady downpour was to build up into the afternoon.

About 3 inches of rain could fall at shoreports and valleys and up to 3 inches in low-mountain and mountain counties, meteorologists said.

Officials said fire-affected areas near the Bond and El Dorado fires are especially vulnerable to the storm system.

Residents of the area scorched by the Bond fire in Orange County were ordered to evacuate ahead of 8pm on Thursday.

Thursday is also one of the busiest days of the year according to AAA, the federal transportation safety agency, and authorities are advising residents to be cautious when riding on slippery or icy roads.
