But Ms. Thunberg, who used her address at the United Nations climate summit in New York in 2019 to furiously tell world leaders that they are not doing enough to combat climate change, said,”I think that maybe summarises the whole situation that we are in, the fact that these kinds of countries that are actually hosting COP are planning to actually expand fossil fuel infrastructure, to actually open up new oil fields and so on.
Swedish climate campaigner Greta Thunberg said she has not decided yet whether she will travel to Glasgow for next month’s UN global climate change conference, but would do so when it is perceived to be “safe and democratic”- including guaranteeing that attendees from poorer countries are fully vaccinated and able to travel.
Asked if Scotland had been a world leader on climate change, the campaigner said:”No country has been a world leader on that.”
The Scottish government has said it remains a “world leading” to reach its goal of meeting net output by 2045.
The 18-year-old also expressed concern about the Scottish government’s new power-sharing agreement with the Scottish Greens, which will get Green representatives in government in the UK in the first place.
Asked directly about Ms Sturgeon ‘s deal with the Greens, the Swedish teenager said: ‘Obviously, there are some politicians who are a little less naughty than the rest.
It is a hopeful sign that people want “green” – whatever “green” means – but a more systemic approach to solving this is all that is needed.”
Mrs Thunberg has not yet decided whether she will take part in the conference this year but she announced that if she does she will be travelling by train.
I will still give evidence at two committees tomorrow and respond to the debate on the McVitie’s closure at Tollcross, amongst many other commitments this week and next, albeit virtually. /2

A lot of (understandable) questions about blanket vaccination for 12-15yr olds. Govt eagerly awaiting further JCVI advice – important we continue to take expert advice. Vaccine team is actively making operational preparations should go-ahead be given to vaccinate that age cohort.
