Bureau of Meteorology meteorologist Harry Clark said major flooding was expected along the Logan River and warned that levels might be similar to Cyclone Debbie’s 2017.
Boats and wreckage causing havoc in the Brisbane river and key roads in the city were cut off.
Brisbane City Council has also developed a flood search tool that will allow people to check if their suburbs are likely to suffer flooding.
Stay off the streets, unless you absolutely must be on them Carlene York, SES
Ms Palaszczuk urged those living in flood-prone areas that were not evacuated to consider their safety plans in the event that they are forced to abandon their homes.
In the southeast, 1.040 people were in evacuation centers, including 550 in Gympie, while Wivenhoe Dam was draining water to make sure there was adequate capacity for flooding.
For those new to the city or wishing to recollect, see a Brisbane City Council flood map of where the river rose between 2011 and 1974.
Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk has urged Queensland people to stay indoors, warning of highly riddled flash floods, landslides and debris on roads as the bad weather continues.
