One of the most regrettable effects of climate change is its impact on marine life

Researchers from the University of Queensland and environmental experts across the world reviewed the marine biology literature and set a framework, classifying a range of threats affecting more than 45.000 species, from climate change to pollution and fisheries.

The framework is in place to identify the most at risk marine species in marine life.

Vulnerable species affected by global climate change

The study was published in Ecosphere.

Dr. Nathalie Butt, of UQ’s School of Earth and Environmental Sciences, said the research showed the most threatened species across all threats.

Dr Butt said the pace of environmental change was a motivator behind development of this framework.

In addition, it can assist other scientists in devising a framework for ways to preserve endangered species.
