Dangerous fog will sweep across parts of England in just hours with motorists bracing for significant transport chaos.

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for fog across part of southern England and the West Midlands, valid until 11am and alert for travel disruption.

The Met Office has issued a “yellow weather warning” for fog tonight, which will stay around parts of central and southern England through to tomorrow morning.

Slowing travel times, bus and train track delays and ‘difficult driving conditions’ and ‘rapid changes to visibility’ were predicted.

Temperatures continue to drop to -4C (-6F) in parts of the country from tomorrow to Monday and people are urged to check on their vulnerable neighbours.

In the south, fog will form on Thursday night, which will spread through parts of the Midlands overnight.

Agostinho Sousa, consultant in Public Health Medicine at UKHSA, added: “With temperatures continuing to be very low this winter, it is important to keep the eyes on those who are more vulnerable to cold like the elderly or frail friends and families, especially those living alone or with a serious illness.”

Furthermore, there is a risk of flight delays or cancellations in airports shrouded by mist.
