The Met Office has issued a rare blaze warning for southern England as last week’s mini heatwave gives way to a ‘massive accumulation’ of thunderstorms.

The weather decline is unlikely to last long, and the mercury is predicted to climb to 30 degrees on Wednesday next week.

Temperatures could hit 26C on Thursday before cooling down to the weekend’s finale.

While the high was 62F (32.7C) on Friday, the highest was 27C (212F) on Saturday in herstmonceux, East Sussex, and showers were also issued across much of the country, with the Met Office issuing a yellow warning for South West England as lightning and heavy rain approached.

Temperatures are forecast to climb again to well below 30 degrees on Wednesday, across the South.
