On World Ozone Day, Secretary-General António Guterres called on nations to act now in order to slow down climate change, supply the world’s starving, and protect the planet.
The ozone layer, a fragile cover of gas that shields the Earth from the harmtious rays of the sun, is “on track for betterment,” the U.N. chief said on Thursday in his World Ozone Day message.
The multilateral treaty aiming to phase out ozone destroying substances has protected human health, the economy and the ecosystems through the cure of the ozone hole.
When complied with in full, the Kigali amendment could prohibit a global warming of 0.4 degrees below zero during this century.
