Amid concerns about global warming, Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu on Sunday called for action to keep limit temperatures to maintain small islands – and their sublime beauty – intact, while also avoiding displacement by islanders.
Venkaiah Naidu urged Countries to join forces to limit global temperatures so that the tiny islands and their sublime beauty are preserved and islanders “houses are not driven away.
Vice President Naidu expressed concern about the impact of climate change and global warming on small islands and said that it was unfair for small islands which bear minimal share of the total emissions to pay the price for their carelessness by major nations.
The Vice Chancellor, who wrapped up his two-day official visit to the small islands, said:’It is a joy to be surrounded by the vast expanse of turquoise blue water, canopying palm trees, white-sand shores, and the clear blue skies.’
The vice president praised the efforts to preserve the environment whilst also promoting tourism in such destinations and called on tourists to travel responsibility-oriented with an eye to the welfare of the local people and nature.
Praising the Lakshadweep Government for its consistent effort to protect the coastal environment and enhance tourism, the Vice President urged other Tourism sites to emulate Lakshadwep’s approach and pursue ecotourism.
He acknowledged the people of Lakshadweep for their role in cleaning up the islands.
Addressing the steady growth of the fish production in the Lakshadweep region, the Vice President commended the Lakshadweep Government who had given their firm support to the sector.
