Extreme rainfall levels, such as those found in New York and New Jersey, and other recent extreme precipitation events in Tennessee, Germany and China are becoming much more prevalent as a result of man-made global warming, scientists say.

As a recent U.N. Climate Report says,’the frequency and intensity of heavy precipitation events have increased since the 1950s over most land area.’

The United States in particular was noted to have the strongest rainfall increases over all regions of the Americas, with the Northeast of the United States reporting the biggest increases according to the US National Climate Assessment.

The governors of New Jersey and New York declared a state of emergency, leaving at least 25 people dead, officials said.
