John Kerry, the U.S. envoy for climate change, has warned that the UN’s climate summit will end without a consensus among nations over the ambitious cuts in carbon dioxide emissions necessary to avoid devastating climate change.

US Climate Change Secretary John Kerry recognizes that upcoming UN climate talks, in Glasgow, Scotland, are likely to lag behind the goal for reduction of emissions, which is needed to ward off more devastating scenarios of global warming.

The UN climate change summit expected to start in Glasgow later this month has been described as a ‘make or break’ moment for the future of the planet.

I think we should do those things,”he says, later adding he believes Congress” will proceed responsibly “by passing a version of climate legislation.

Kerry spoke of the repercussions if Congress does not enact major US climate change legislation: Kerry likens the likely repercussions to President Donald Trump withdrawing the US from the Paris Climate Agreement.

Scientists warn that the damage is irreversible and approaching catastrophic proportions without major reductions in emissions.

“It would be like President Trump pulling out of the Paris agreement, again,” Kerry said in an interview with The Associated Press from his Foreign Office offices.
