A Australian outback city better known for dust and rising heat is reeling from flooding as heavy fall rain swept through deep inland.

Locals were shocked by the downpours that turned the CBD into a “river” and are believed to have damaged some buildings, with more than 140mm in areas of town after an unprecedentedly wet summer.

NSW Incident Alerts, which is not a state agency or authority, also sent out a warning to residents on Tuesday night about “dangerous and life-threatening flash flooding”

Elaine Gillett says a number of buildings and homes in the west of the town were damaged, with the worst hit.
