Doctors have told the Federal Government to commit to stricter climate objectives ahead of next month’s World Climate Summit in Glasgow, warning that Australians “health is at risk.
MULTIPLE Physicians and organisations, led by the Australian Medical Association, as well as a major agricultural lobby, have called for the federal government to support Australia’s climate change ambitions with growing pressure on Scott Morrison and Barnaby Joyce to reach an agreement ahead of next week’s conference in Glasgow.
Mr Morrison says he wants net zero emissions as soon as possible, preferably by 2050, but has not signalled any official commitment to that goal.

UN climate change conference COP26 is due to be held next month in Glasgow and campaigners are urging the coalition to adopt more ambitious objectives before talks are convened
“As doctors, we understand the imminent health threats posed by climate change and have seen them already emerge in Australia,” the letter reads, referring to the 2019-20 bushfires, which claimed the lives of more than 30 people as a direct consequence of the fires.
