Climate change is a major global challenge and India is committed to tackling it, Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav said on Monday.
Opening the Climate Action and Finance Movement Dialogue (CAFMD) in the context of the Indo-U.S. 2030 Climate Clean Energy Agenda, Yadav said India is proactive in tackling climate change and reducing carbon dioxide emissions.
John F. Kerry, the United States president’s Special Representative on Climate Change, arrived on Sunday in New Delhi to kick off the event.
Yadav said that the partnership between India and the USA would contribute to strengthening climate change mitigation.
The Climate Action dialogue and the funding mobilisation under the Agenda 2030 Partnership launched currently will be an opportunity for the two countries to renew their cooperation on climate change, while addressing funding aspects at the same time, Yadav said.
The Foreign Minister said India was already a viable destination for global investments in clean energy.
Kerry called for urgent action to combat climate change, saying action needed to be taken now to avoid more cataclysmic effects.
Kerry, speaking on the matter, also said it was a good time to invest in the energy transition.
