Sea levels around the US will rise by a foot over the next 30 years because of climate change, as fast as they did last century, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has forecasted in a report on Tuesday.
The study https:/ / www.noaa.gov / News-release / us-coast-to-see-up-to-foot-of-sea-rise-by-2050 predicts that sea levels along the US coast will go up an average of 25-10 centimetres by 2050.
The projected increase is particularly alarming, since during the 20th century ocean temperatures along the Atlantic coast rose to their highest levels in 2.000 years.
In addition to frequent coastal floods, which are accompanied by severe storm surges, rising sea levels are causing even greater flooding caused by high currents.
