Around 50 climate ministers will overcome hurdles at their pre-COP26 summit, which begins Thursday, including disagreements over the pace of transition and who pays.

The UN Climate Change Conference COP26 is intended to establish more ambitious climate action from the nearly 200 member states that signed the 2015 Paris Accord and agreed to attempt to limit man-made warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius.

“Young people need to start getting involved in the actual negotiations,”Rose Kobusinge

“Youth must begin taking a share in negotiations,” said Rose Kobusinge, a youth delegate from Uganda.

“It was promised by 2020 and we are still waiting,”Vanessa Nakata

‘It was promised by 2020 and we are still waiting,’ re still waiting,’ said Vanessa Nakata, a Youth Delegation from Uganda.

Years after world leaders promised to address environmental issues at the 1992 Rio Summit in Brazil, youth activists struggle to put climate change on top of the global agenda; they now need to help find solutions ahead of the United Nations COP26 in November.

With new energy and finance commitments from the United States and China making negotiators more optimistic, many G20 countries, including big polluters such as China and India, are still awaiting updates on their short-lived climate plans.

“The time has come for the major economies” leaders and even the largest greenhouse greenhouse gas emitters to make much bolder commitments,”COP26 president Alok Sharma said in his video message on Tuesday.
