Secretary General Antonio Guterres warned the world of environmental destruction and struck a somber opening tone for the annual session of the U.N. General Assembly in New York.
Opening the UN General Assembly in NYC, Guterres urged US-led efforts to end fossil fuel subsidies, end the use of coal, invest in renewable energy, and taxe carbon and pollution “instead of people’s income.”
He has also said that the gap between the rich and poor should be bridged and firmly demanded that developed countries contribute resources to help developing countries overcome the climate crisis.
