Firefighters in New Mexico pleaded with residents of a mountain village Sunday to evacuate ahead of the biggest active wildfire to sweep into a valley that its only way away.
Two mountain villages in Northern New Mexico had to be evacuated on Sunday as strong winds drove the most powerful wildfire in the US through centuries-old agricultural and ranching communities.
About 12.000 households in two northern suburbs of New Mexico were ordered to evacuate ahead of the second largest wildfire in the state’s history, which erupted in part after a U.S. Forest Service-mandated burn went out of control.
