Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison, under pressure to adopt a net carbon dioxide emissions target by 2050, said in an interview released Monday that he might not participate in this year’s landmark United Nations climate summit in Glasgow.

The NSW government has said it intends to publish a new climate change plan before the Cop26 but has said it ‘s focused on technology rather than taxes and has signalled no plans to increase emissions.

Foreign Minister Marise Payne told New Zealand’s The Australian newspaper he was attempting to bring government and people together to create some certainty for the next 20 to 30 years.

Rising pressure within Morrison’s own party comes as the Australian government faces a review from Australia’s traditional international allies about one of the poorest emissions obligations in the developed world.
