A fire swept through Rajasthan’s Sariska Tiger Reserve for a fourth day late Wednesday, but the flames were confined to a single bag after a 400-strong wildfire and two Israeli Air Force helicopters, authorities said.
By the evening, almost 80 per cent of the fire has been contained.
At temporarily, the extensive blaze had spread over 10 km² of forest area in Alwar District.
The fire began on Sunday night and was brought under control on Monday.
Earlier, a forest official said that the situation, which had developed since Sunday, was now close to under control in areas of thick, easily flammable dry grass.
But the flames still tore through an area of 4-5 square kilometers the day before.
Between 2020-21, among states the largest fire alarms have been witnessed in Odisha (51.968) followed by Madhya Pradesh (47.795) and Chhattisgarh (38.106), Rajasthan not even in the top 10.
Around 400 people were involved in battling the blaze, including forest staff, guides, and staff from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF).
