Firefighters struggled on Friday to contain a huge blaze that has burnt about one month in New Mexico and is stoking fears for the coming summer in the drought-riddled western U.S.
Strongly, the fire, fueled by high winds, has burned a 45-mile trail in the Sangre de Cristo mountains in just more than a month.
Residents of the 1.000-year-old village of Taos and the Angel Fire ski resort packed up their bags in cars and trailers after being warned that they could take off.
“This is tough firefighting business right here,” Fire Department Capt. Dave Bales said.
