The Tyndall Centre report said rich countries must cut their oil and gas output by 2034 to limit global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius (3.6 degrees Fahrenheit) and allow poorer nations time to replace fossil fuel revenues.

It has already produced a study which says the rich countries will have to complete oil and gas production over the next 12 years, whilst the poorest countries should be given 28 years to allow a fair transition away from fossil fuels.

The 70-page analysis by the Tyndall Centre for Climate change Research comes at the same time that nearly 200 nations begin a two-week negotiation to validate a landmark evaluation of options for reducing carbon pollution and extracting CO2 from the air, including a cap on greenhouse gas emissions.
