Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg has “drive” an audience crazy on behalf of climate activism.

Thunberg danced to Rick Astley’s “Never Gonna Give You Up” for an audience at Climate Live, a teen-led concert on Saturday.

“Rickrolling” is an Internet phenomenon about getting someone to accidentally open the video of Astley’s hits from the 1980s to see where their money went.

Thunberg showed her moves to a smitten audience as she danced and sang to the song on a stage in Stockholm. Astley herself shared footage of the dance, calling it her ‘marvellous experience’.

The event was the first in a series of 19 concerts being convened worldwide with the idea of raising awareness and pressure on world leaders ahead of COP26, the global conference on climate change in Glasgow in November.

International climate conversations in Glasgow might not be happening at a crucial juncture.

According to one of the latest scientific reports published by the UN this August, the world is warming faster than scientists have ever believed, and reducing greenhouse gas emissions by at least 50 percent over this decade will essential for averting the more catastrophic impact of the climate crisis.

More than 190 countries have signed the Paris agreement following the COP21 meeting in 2015, to limit the rise in global temperatures to well below 2 Celsius above pre-industrial levels, with the option of 1.5 degrees Celsius.
