Australia’s snow-storm-like start to winter is set to continue over the weekend, after the country experienced icy temperatures, wild winds and heavy snowfalls.
Parts of Australia awoke Wednesday to the coldest temperatures of the year, as freezing weather pummeled the south-eastern corner of the country.
Snow fell in alpine Victoria and the central tablelands of New South Wales, west of Sydney, and residents on Blayney, Bathurst, Oberon and west of Lithgow all reported falls on Wednesday.
While some parts of Australia will turn white, severe weather warnings also apply in the south-east, with damaging winds expected in southern Australia, Victoria and New South Wales up to the Queensland boundary.
Winds are expected to subside in Victoria by noon and in NSW in the afternoon or evening.
