China’s special envoy on climate change Xie Zhenhua held ‘candid, in-depth and constructive’ talks with the British climate change envoy Alok Sharma this week, the Department of the Environment announced on Thursday.
Sharma, who had traveled to the northern city of Tianjin from Sunday to Tuesday for talks, is chairman of the COPP26 global warming talks, described as the 2021 United Nations climate change conference, due to take place in Glasgow in November.
In the British summary of Sharma’s trip to Tianjin to meet with Chinese Climate Commissioner Xie Zhenhua no new commitments were outlined in the talks, but both discussed China’s commitment to achieve carbon neutrality by 2060, emission peaks by 2030, and coal consumption.
The Chinese Environment Ministry and the Environment Ministry say the Glasgow conference should demand “fair, common but differentiated responsibilities and respective capabilities principles” skills “to conclude follow-up discussion of the rules for the Paris agreement, the Ministry added.
