(KION) Crews combating the Estrada fire near Watsonville are making good progress, but matters remain to be heard about how the prescribed burn could have got out of hand.
The blazes darkened 148 acres near Santa Cruz-Santa Clara County’s border, which included a small section of Mount Madonna County Park.
Cal Fire said winds eased Friday afternoon and the blaze leaped over the prescribed scorch site at Estrada Ranch.
While more than a dozen firefighters from nearby Cal Fire controlled the blaze, sudden gusts of wind were pushing embers down their lines.
The required incineration was planned for a 20 hectare territory.
