The military has been sent to help fight fires across the Costa del Sol, even as panicked residents were told to evacuate the area.
Juan Sanchez, the fire chief for the region of South Andalucia, said Sunday: “We face the most complex fire that the forestry authorities have experienced in the past few years.

Rafael Fanega, a firefighter at the scene, said the outburst was ‘out of control’and urged more boots to be on the ground.
The blaze has raged for six days in a mountain range in southern Spain, and destroyed an area of 19.000 hectares (1.700 acres).
About 2.600 residents were evacuated.
Most of those evacuated from parts of the resort town of Estepona could return home Monday, but 1.700 were evacuated from six villages and housed in other towns or even in a gazebo in the town of Ronda.
By Monday morning the circumference had reached 50 miles.
Earlier, Alejandro Garcia, deputy operations head of Plan Infoca, said the intensity of the fire was’ remarkable’ compared with what Spain was used to.
