A confluence of intense winds, dehydrated vegetation and bone dry conditions could fuel a further wildfire Monday in southwest Texas, where hundreds of people were forced from their homes and dozens of buildings destroyed.
The wildfire known as’ Big L ‘by the Texas A & M Forest Service has burned over 11.000 acres of land, killing 11,000 firefighter and wounding 11,000 others, authorities in Hood County said.
A cold front was expected on Tuesday, which will bring more moisture.
Forest Department officials said the large-scale fire broke out in Erath County and was moving northward.
A prescribed evacuation order for the town of Lipan, 85 miles west of Dallas, was lifted Monday after the Big L wildfire forced some 700 people to leave their homes over the weekend.
