The winter storm started with heavy snowfall in South Jersey early Friday morning.
Temperatures are expected to dip into the lower 20s in New York City on Friday night and are even colder in the suburbs, advancing into the middle- teens and upper teens, Roys said.
Heavy snow could fall as low as 2 inches an hour in places
“An additional 1-3 inches of snow possible,” the department tweeted at 4.30am on Friday.
Philadelphia will probably land around the 3-inch mark depending upon how fast the snow starts to fall.
Forecasters say the state could also be struck by winds gusts of up to 35 mph by late Friday morning, helping sweep away snow and create dangerous road conditions.
The storm will leave the area at 8pm, then strong winds and cold will extend from late Friday into Saturday.
Parking in the Wave multi-storey car park is free of charge until Saturday.

The heaviest snowfall in our region is expected during the morning commute, and it may lead to unsafe roadway conditions so ONLY go to #EWR if your airline confirms your flight. Roadways may be slick, so allow for extra travel time. pic.twitter.com/MnuzlO0xa0
