More than 5.000 firefighters were battling several wildfires Thursday in dry, windy weather in the southwest, including one fire that burned dozens of buildings in west Texas and another that regained steam in New Mexico.

Evacuation orders for people living near wildfires in Texas, Colorado and New Mexico remained in effect.

The weather won’t help more than 2.000 firefighters put out fires in New Mexico and Colorado.

Dangerous fire weather with gusty winds, high temperatures and ultra-low humidity was forecast to persist through Friday, primarily in New Mexico the largest wildfire to hit the US in more than a month and the governor expects more than 1.000 structures damaged.
