Firefighters poured water and supplies into a raging wildfire in New Mexico Saturday, spurring work ahead of gusty winds expected to lead to large-scale air strikes over the coming days, authorities said.
“This was through a series of things, but the safety of our fire crews from the air was compromised.” Saturday’s wind speeds of 30 mph, with gusts of 48 to 96 mph, were expected to increase on Sunday.
Meanwhile, relative humidity was projected to drop from 35 percent Sunday to a bone dry range of 6 percent to 16 percent, firefighters said.
